The Ansen Chen Trio performs as part of Maxan Jazz’s Young Artist Spotlight. Ansen Chen is a pianist, producer, composer, and arranger based in Boston, Massachusetts. Born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, he began regularly performing on piano at an early age and has since graduated from the Berklee College of Music with a degree in Piano Performance, where he was mentored by a colorful and distinguished cast of musicians, including Kenny Werner, Kevin Harris, Christian Li, and Phil Grenadier. He was a recipient of both the Berklee World Tour Scholarship and the Steve Heck Scholarship, and was widely recognized both on the stage and in the studio. While on the West Coast, Anson studied privately with Uli Geissendorfer and also attended the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts as a jazz major. He has played at a plentiful variety of venues and studios in Las Vegas, as well as in the Boston, Los Angeles and Portland area.
