Celebrate Hip Hop History

August 11 at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Celebrate the day hip hop was born 50 years ago during a live hip hop performance presented by Sound Steps Rhythm Dance Company. Through live music and dance, the unique program will dive into the history of hip hop while dancers, DJs and other artists demonstrate how it has altered lives and shaped the culture for the past 50 years. The event is set to feature choreographer Victoria Jones, Jay R Beatbox, DJ So Hype, the Prodigy Dance Crew, Culture Shock Las Vegas, and Zoologic. Hip hop first emerged when then 18-year-old DJ Kool Herc (Clive Campbell) hosted a back-to-school party in the Bronx on Aug. 11, 1973, and was dubbed the “father of hip-hop.” Since then, hip hop has broken barriers and redefined culture across music, fashion, sports, film, and social movements. From art to activism, hip hop hasn’t just changed history, but is history.
