Las Vegas Stories: Sue Kim of The Kim Sisters

May 4, 2023 at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Sue Kim, of the Korean-born singing trio, the Kim Sisters, is set to lead an evening of conversation at the library. The Kim Sisters were a hit long before today’s K-Pop wave. At 6, 7 and 8 years old, Sueย Kim and her little sisters Minja and Aija began performing for American GIs to support their family in Korea. The sisters launched their American legacy in the China Doll Revue at the Thunderbird hotel in 1959.

“We came to this country with a four-week contract with the option that if we didn’t make it we had to go back, and we never went back,” Sue Kim said. After four weeks, the girls were picked up by the Stardust hotel where Ed Sullivan caught the act. Sullivan had the sisters on his show 22 times. World tours, features in Life Magazine and more followed. In March 2014, Sue Kim became the first Korean-American inducted into UNLVโ€™s Nevada Entertainer/Artist Hall of Fame.
