One Book Features Alka Joshi

July 24 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

“The Henna Artist” by Alka Joshi has been selected as this year’s One Book Henderson community read. Copies of the novel will be available at Henderson Libraries starting April 23 but can be accessed online right now. Read the book and then come to the in-person visit with the author at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at the Henderson Multigenerational Center. The novel follows 17-year-old Lakshmi as she escapes from an abusive marriage and makes her way alone to the vibrant 1950s pink city of Jaipur. There she becomes the most highly requested henna artist โ€” and confidante โ€” to the wealthy women of the upper class. But trusted with the secrets of the wealthy, she can never reveal her own. Published in March 2020, Joshi’s debut novel was a New York Times Best Seller and a Reese Witherspoon book club pick. Henderson Libraries also plan a month’s worth of activities from henna demonstrations and crafts to music introductions.
