For the season finale, the Las Vegas Philharmonic, led by conductor Donato Cabrera, plans to present Tchaikovsky’s impassioned “Fourth Symphony,” plus Sibelius’s patriotic tone poem, “Finlandia,” and Prokofiev’s “Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Major, Op. 26” featuring pianist Ilya Yakushev. Yakushev attended the Rimsky-Korsakov College of Music in his native St. Petersburg, Russia, and subsequently came to New York City to attend Mannes College of Music where he studied with legendary pianist Vladimir Feltsman. Yakushev took his first prize at 12 in a Young Artists Concerto Competition in his native Russia and went on to win the 2005 World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, Ohio. Since then he’s been performing with symphonies and philharmonics around the world.
