Every dog has his day, and for Vegas Valley dogs, that day is coming Sept. 28 when they take over local public pools for pup pool parties.

Wet fur fun at public pools

September 28: It's the end of the summer swim season, which means it's time for public pools to go to the dogs. Centennial Hills YMCA plans a Puppy Pawlooza Pool Party, and on the other end of the valley you can catch city of Henderson's Doggie Paddle & Play Day.

Before pools close for the season, some dedicate one splashy day to the dogs.

Elvis in the Library

September 20: Bob McArthur is doing his part to keep the Elvis mystique alive with a free afternoon concert rescheduled at the Summerlin Library. If you're lucky, you just might catch a scarf from the King!

Latin Jazz at the Library

September 20: The UNLV Latin Jazz Ensemble is set to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with a free evening concert featuring a fusion of European and Latin America musical stylings at the Summerlin Library.

Picnicking Downtown style

September 21: Meet chefs pushing the boundaries, nom on fancy picnic food, and enjoy art, music and ideas at Picnic in the Alley, a 100% woman curated epicurean event benefiting the Women's Hospitality Initiative.

You Can't Read THAT!!!

September 23: Unite for the right to read whatever you like at You Can't Read That: An Evening with Banned Books. The Las Vegas-Clark County Library and Asylum Theatre sponsored staged reading is set to feature local readers sharing the words of silenced voices.

Join the resistance against book banning at the Clark County Library on Sept. 23.

Great Brazilian Songbook

September 23: Andre Mehmari, winner of the 2023 Grand Prize awarded by Brazil's leading music journal, is bringing his variations on the Great Brazilian Songbook to the Summerlin Library for a free solo piano show. The highlight of his shows is when he spins audience suggestions into an improvisational work.

September 24: Check out artist Monica Carlisle's Art of Sound: A Musical Instrument Showcase during a free reception. The artist's guitar-infused work is up through Nov. 19 at the Whitney Library.

Super Summer Soiree

September 26: Cynthia Kiser Murphey is the honoree at this year's Super Sumer Soiree at KAOS inside the Palms. Enjoy cocktails, silent and live auctions, dinner and special performances while raising funds for quality community theater.

Senegalese storytelling and song

September 26: Senegalese musician King Ibu brings his passion for music to audiences around the globe, sharing polyrhythms and joyful grooves backed up by traditional West African folk. Catch the King during a free evening concert at Sahara West Library.

Staged readings with A Public Fit

September 27-28: When neighbors battle over a fence line in the suburbs thought provoking comedy ensues. A Public Fit Theatre Company brings Karen Zacarias' "Native Gardens," directed by Gigi Guizado, to the Clark County Library's main theater for two free staged readings, followed by The Buzz, an interactive discussion with the cast, crew and audience.

Diamonds Are Forever

September 27: Broadway veteran Niki Scalera celebrates the life and career of Dame Shirley Bassey with her one-woman cabaret concert, “Diamonds Are Forever,” set to grace the stage at Myron's at The Smith Center. Niki teams with Keith Thompson, who wrote fresh arrangements for many of Bassey's hits.

Turn it Up Mr. Piano Man

September 28: Michael Kaeshammer plans to bring his pop piano concert, Turn it Up, to Myron's for a night of accessible jazz fusion.

Happy about Hendrix

September 27: Head to the Smith Center for what Jimi Hendrix might have called "Electric Church." A host of artists, which may include Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Zakk Wylde, Eric Johnson, Samantha Fish, Robby Krieger, and more, will be playing the legend's hits during Experience Hendrix.

Caña Dulce Y Caña Brava

September 28: Caña Dulce y Caña Brava presents Mexican folk music, poetry, dance and dress in a band that highlights the strength of feminine performers. Catch the band's free concert in the Water Street Plaza Amphitheater.

Tribute to Astor Piazzolla

September 28: Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla revolutionized traditional tango music by fusing the genre with elements of jazz and classical music. This Rainbow Library free concert will feature musicians on violin, cello, and bass saluting Pazzolla's "nuevo tango" style.

Jazz at the Bird Viewing Preserve

September 29: Guitar Vango and Richard Smith and the Transatlantic Guitar Trio are slated to play at Jazz at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve. Complimentary cart tours of the preserve are included in your ticket price.

September 29: Steve Oliver is set to perform selections from his latest chart-topping album "A New Light" during a free concert at the Summerlin Library.

September 21: "On Broadway" Sirius XM Host Seth Rudetsky is set to be joined by fellow "On Broadway" host Christine Pedi for an intimate concert at Myron's in The Smith Center. 

September 22: Help ring in Bilbo and Frodo Baggins's birthdays with themed snacks, riddles, trivia and decor in celebration of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit." The free Sahara West Library event is open to all ages, but space is limited.

September 22: Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Stories From Home, an interactive storytelling presentation where audience members are invited to share their unique stories with friends and neighbors.

September 27-29: It's almost time for the Las Vegas Greek Food Festival, an explosion of music, dance, art, carnival games and, of course, tons of authentic Greek foods from homemade baklava and dolmades to souvlaki, Greek fries, gyros and more. Coupon books can be purchased in advance online or at the church office. Be sure to research parking and shuttle options in advance, because there's no parking near St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church.

Disclosure: Cher herself does not appear in the show. But if you're willing to settle for tributes decked out in Bob Mackie gowns, you'll be dazzled.

Now-November 9: "Scream'd: An Unauthorized Musical Parody" is back and just as bludgeony as ever. Written and directed by Majestic's own Troy Heard, with music arrangements by Brandon Scott Grayson and choreography by Noah Rivera, the show features a pop playlist accompanied by a live band.
