It's time to brush off your fall finery and indulge in fantasy at theater productions, book (and comic book) festivals, concerts and fall attractions.

Step into the woods

Now-October 31: All ages are welcome to embark on a spooktacular adventure with family-friendly thrills, themed rides, carnival games and trick-or-treating in a festive haunted forest at Opportunity Village's 11th annual HallOVeen at the Magical Forest. Event volunteers are needed, too.

Don't feed the plant!

October 23-November 23: Seymour feels fortunate to find a mysterious plant that may help him escape skid row. One catch: This bud's voracious hunger can't be met by fertilizer. Signature Production brings the perennial classic dark comedy musical Little Shop of Horrors to the Summerlin Library Theatre with a cast featuring Ayler Evan, Eli Carlin, Matti Avery, Michael Brown, Nakaze Harris, Hope Whipple, Kyleigh Keith, Emma Phillips, Jeff Scudder, Stella Roy, Matthew Trudeau, Annie Hinskton and Charlotte Nichols. Anthology blooming

October 17: Catch Las Vegas Write Project's newest anthology authors reading from "Desert Superbloom: Las Vegas Writers on Scarcity and Abundance" at the Clark County Library. The anthology edited by Jarret Keene features Jennifer Battisti, Christian Bertolaccini, Safiyya Bintali, Nicole Damon, Melissa Gill, Ana Jimenez, Victoria Koelkebeck, Mark Lenker, Paul W. Papa, Shannon Salter, S.G. Tasz, Cynthia Vespia, Autumn Widdoes, and Staci Layne Wilson.

Horse-filled Halloween

October 26-27: Gladius, a historical equine acrobatic performance troupe, is opening up their 5636 Donald Road ranch for a set of Halloween shows. The donation-based performances ($25 suggested) will help raise funds to care for the horses. Also in the works are barbecue and trick-or-treating along a decorated path.

World War I Science Drama

October 18-November 3: Las Vegas Little Theatre presents The Half-Life of Marie Curie, a play centering on groundbreaking scientists Marie Curie (played by Olivia Hernando) and Hertha Ayrton (played by Barbara King.) Directed by Jacob Moore, and written by Lauren Gunderson, the play highlights the strength of female friendship in the face of adversity.

Las Vegas Little Theatre is set to present The Half-Life of Marie Curie.

Real ghost stories

October 18: Silver State Ghost Hunters will talk about the techniques they use to seek spirits and share some hair-raising stories during a free Gibson Library presentation.

Bluegrass at the amphitheater

October 19: Food, drink and live music are on the menu at Henderson Bluegrass, a free all-ages concert at Henderson's Water Street Amphitheater. Local favorites The Hollerbodies and The Boulder Highwaymen will be joined by visiting headliners The Slocan Ramblers.

Jazz Picnic

October 19: Food will be sold on site or you can bring your own to the Las Vegas Jazz Society's annual Community Jazz Picnic from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Winchester Cultural Center.

DeLorean Time

October 23-November 3: Doc Brown's classic sports car time machine is set to take Marty McFly back in time at The Smith Center in "Back to the Future: The Musical." The iconic 1985 film was adapted for the stage by its creators Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis and directed by John Rando with original music by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard along with hit songs from the movie. The musical's extended run at the Smith Center means there are plenty of good seats left.

Book Lover's Bonanza

October 19: The Las Vegas Book Festival is set to lure literary lovers of all ages into the Historic Fifth Street School Auditorium and its classrooms and outdoor plaza for a full schedule of panel discussions, readings, hands-on workshops, and activities. Headliners include filmmaker John Waters, YA legend Nicola Yoon, and besteseller Tracy Wolff. There will be plenty of local talent, too, including a collection of poet laureates past and present and readings featuring faculty from UNLV's Creative Writing Program. Don't miss the power panel packed with historians Geoff Schumacher, Scott Dickensheets, Su Kim Chung, Michael Green, and Mark Hall-Patton taking about the tortured history of books about Vegas at 12:15 in the Empowered Tent, or "The Human Condition in the Age of Information Overload," a discussion with Nora Lange and Justin Taylor moderated by our own Andrew Kiraly at 3:30 p.m. in the Downtown Tent.

Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival

November 2: Crack out your coolest cosplay or come as you are for the 16th annual Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival, a full-day, all-ages event filled with panel discussions, film screenings, how-to demonstrations, an artist's alley, comic book shop and craft vendors and presentations by local and national artists, writers and scholars. Special guests include: Ben Saunders, Cat Farris, Caitlin Like, Chris Roberson, Cosplay Vegas, Dr D.C. -Dukes and Ronnie Dukes, Jeff Parker, Spencer Brinkerhoff III, and Zack Davisson. And don't miss the concert by Las Vegas anime rockers BlackROS3.

Cinderella is on pointe

October 18-20: The Nevada Ballet Theatre presents Cinderella, a storybook classic with several new twists full of romance, comedy and drama. This Las Vegas premiere features' choreography by Ben Stevenson and music by Sergei Prokofiev.

Dancing in the dark

October 20: Catapult, a sensational shadow dance company, blends storytelling, dance, and human sculpture behind a giant silk screen into a mesmerizing show. And that show is coming to the West Las Vegas Library Theater. Admission is free, but seats are limited.

Rock -n-Read

October 19: Windmill Library is ready to launch Rock-n-Read, a day of open-mic reading, Guitar Hero, a book sale, crafting and, best of all, a free concert featuring local punk rock sibling sensations The Dollheads.

Subsanity

October 17: Local teen band Subsanity, a Henderson Battle of the Bands winner, is set to rock the Windmill Library with a free concert as part of the district's TeenTober.

Subsanity will be banging heads at the Windmill Library.

Flick tunes in brass

October 20: Pentagogical Brass, a quintet made up of local music pros, plans to perform film score favorites in a free concert at the West Charleston Library. So if you're into live trumpet, French hor,n and trombone, don't miss it. But if you do have to miss it, they'll be back with holiday tunes on Dec. 15.

Fall-O-Ween Fair

October 19: Expect roving magic by Magician Greg Dow, puppet plays, carnival games and more at the Enterprise Library's Fall-O-Ween Fair.

Coco Live-to-Film Concert

October 25: UNLV is hosting a screening of the award-winning Disney-Pixar film "Coco," backed up by a live-on-the-concert-hall-stage performance by the Orquesta Folclórica Nacional de México, a 20-member orchestra packed with ocarinas, flutes, guitars, violins, double basses, and more. Go early to see the ofrenda created by Las Vegas artist Elsa Cantú-Lizarraga. Tickets range from $20 to $60 with discounts for students.

Run for your life

October 19: Dress up and dash through a monster-infested course at Henderson's Zombie Run, a family-friendly race for your life. Registration starts at $30 on the day of the race. If you'd rather wait and jog with Santa, check out the Reindeer Dash in December.

Rainbow Trunk-or-Treat

October 23: Rainbow Library plans a free family trunk-or-treat event with treats (while supplies last), live music, chalk art, a costume parade and even a lightsaber dueling presentation.

Chad Lawson plans library concert

October 29: Steinway superstar Chad Lawson composed the music for the podcast "Lore," and his piano playing has graced shows like "The Walking Dead," "Vampire Diaries" and "Viceland." Catch him in a free concert at the Windmill Library.

Henderson Creates

Now-November 4: The Henderson Creates Art Exhibition, showcasing the artistic talents of city of Henderson employees, will be on display through Nov. 4 throughout Henderson City Hall. Don't miss a tour of the exhibit led by Meg Heeres on Oct. 24.

Henderson Hot Wheels

November 9: Break out your tiny cars for Henderson Hot Wheels 500, this time at the Silver Springs Recreation Center. Register here.

All ages are invited to compete in tiny car races at Henderson Hot Wheels 500.

A Skeptic and a Bruja

October 30-November 10: Rosa Fernandez's play, "A Skeptic and a Bruja," directed by guest artist Delicia Turner Sonnenberg, follows a paranormal investigation team on a hunt for the supernatural.

"A Skeptic and a Bruja," a black box play at UNLV, explores the paranormal.

UNLV Art Walk

November 1: The 7th annual UNLV Art Walk welcomes the community for exhibitions; hands-on art experiences; film presentations; live performances of music, dance and theater; samples of the culinary arts and much more from one end of the campus' academic mall to the other. The whole event (including parking!) is free and open to all ages. Be sure to download the schedule app to keep track of all the fun. Seize the Día de los Muertos

November 1-2: There are a plethora of places to Celebrate the Day of the Dead/ Día de los Muertos in the Las Vegas Valley. Here are a few: East Las Vegas Library will host a free celebration in partnership with Chicanos Por La Causa. The Springs Preserve presents dance, music and theater performances at a two-day festival, and inside the adjacent Nevada State Museum you can catch live mariachi shows. City of Las Vegas gets into the act. The Winchester Cultural Center hosts displays, an art show, and a stage packed with two days of festive entertainment.

Cultural celebration

November 10: The city of Henderson plans to host its annual Indigenous American Heritage Celebration, a tribute to traditional Indigenous American cultures through immersive live music, dance and storytelling.

Del Sol tackles Steel Magnolias

October 17-19: Del Sol Academy of Performing Arts presents "Steel Magnolias" as its fall play. Tickets range from $3 to $7.

Harry Potter headed to high school

November 1-10: Faith Conservatory High School of the Arts is premiering the high school version of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," a play based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany.

Catch Me if You Can

November 8-17: Bishop Gorman is set to put on the major main stage musicals "Catch Me if You Can" in November and "Jesus Christ Superstar" in February.

Beauty and the Beast

November 14-23: Tickets are on sale now for Las Vegas Academy of the Arts' production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. This arts magnet high school puts on affordable Broadway-calibre performances with tickets ranging from $10 to $30.
