Your August to-do list

Your August to-do list
Go ahead and laugh, but don't give away the secret.

IF THERE WAS EVER a month to entertain yrself to utter, unrecoverable distraction in Vegas, it's August. It's still hot af, but also "muggy" – you know, that thing when the air turns into rich, suffocating Jergens. Here's a shovelful of distraction blippin' on my radar!

Aug. 1: Smell the flannel, feel the Melon Collie at this '90s tribute show.

Aug. 2: Hm, maybe a play about standing up to a tyrant is just the kinda prescient theater we need. Thanks, Antigone!

Aug. 3: See The Room, one of the best worst movies ever made, with one of the guys who lived to tell about it.

Aug. 4: Learn to make your own incense with a witch at Cemetery Pulp.

Aug. 5: SoulBelly BBQ debuts their new smashburgers.

Aug. 7: This beer-tapping and trivia night at Khoury's features food and prizes.

Aug. 8: At the Mob Museum, the secret ingredient is cybercrime.

Aug. 9: Comic Con fandom, assemble! Also, is Jane's Addiction now classic rock?

Aug. 10: Laugh loudly at Don't Tell Comedy, but in secret. Also, get a collage education at this art workshop at Avantpop Books.

Aug. 11: A walk to remember ... with bats. Or see cool stars in Cold Creek.

Aug. 12: The Karaoke World Championship kicks off at The Plaza, featuring the nation's top sing-along talent battling with their larynxes.

Aug. 13: Babes, blues, curves, and (consensual) catcalls. ☝️

Aug. 14: Go back in time and watch The Doors rehearse at this new event series at The Composers Room.

Aug. 15: De Donde? explores the trials and tribulations of undocumented immigrants at Majestic Repertory Theatre.

Aug. 16: Witness the sorcery of pinball wizards (or make some magic yourself) at Area 15's tourney.

Aug. 17: He is the eye in the sky, looking at you-oo-ooh.

Aug. 18: Get back to the '80s with Howard Jones, ABC, and Haircut 100 at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

Aug. 19: Get mooned on this night hike.

Aug. 20: A vibrant showcase of Latin art at Summerlin Library.

Aug. 21: I saw these guys at the Boston Bar & Grill in like 2002 and tbh didn't think they'd go very far.

Aug. 22: Trip among the color fields by this Nevada artist ☝️ at Enterprise Library.

Aug. 23: The Elvi are calling from inside the Westgate at this three-day tribute festival.

Aug. 24: It sure is hot. Why don't you take it all off at this summer striptease showcase?

Aug. 25: Indulge in poetry about hedonism in a cozy reading room filled with tiny objects.

Aug. 26: Get ready to Euro-nate as Belgium Beer Week kicks off at beloved dad-basement brew bar The Silver Stamp.

Aug. 27: Love me some gutsy psychedelic funk that ruins cutlery. Bend those spoons!

Aug. 28: Hear some songs to literally die for at hotspot Ninja Karaoke's murder mystery cocktail party.

Aug. 29: Love and murder in the great outdoors as Super Summer Theatre continues.

Aug. 30: At Swan Dive, celebrate rockin' women at Fête de Feme, a concert of femme and femme-presenting talent featuring Elevated Undergrounds, Switterbeet, Same Sex Mary, and more.
