Dancing in the dark: The elaborately layered funhouse cumbia of Mexico City's Sonido Gallo Negro is not for the faint of heart – or feet, for that matter. Brimming with carnival-organ peals and eerie theremin whines, it's the hypnotically danceable soundtrack to occult revels that happen well after midnight. They'll raise some spirits (including your own) April 4 at Swan Dive.

THINK BIG THIS week – because we're shoveling up an outsized portion of springy goodness in the form of fat festivals of every type, from street food to craft beer to big ideas. Whether you're looking to fill your stomach or your brain, we've got all your organs covered. (Except maybe the spleen.) Cheers! – Andrew Kiraly 🤍

José Rivera’s iconic work of magical realism is a poetic masterpiece, inviting audiences into a world where reality and fantasy blur, challenging our perceptions of love, identity, and the pursuit of happiness in an unpredictable world. [ADVERTISEMENT]

🥖
French accent: A new brasserie serving potently and precisely sauced French cuisine in the beer-drenched Arts District? Mais oui. James Trees' Bar Boheme opened this week. I grazed ferociously through a media dinner sampling Sunday night, and waddled away not just happily gavaged with butter-swimming escargots, beefy golden frites, and foie gras-topped tarte Tatin, but also struck with an intimation of optimistic continuity. Anyone double-taking at the implausibility of French food Downtown should be reminded of a renowned forebear: Andre's on 6th Street, that ponderously rustic shrine to classic French cooking that notched three decades and two Michelin stars before closing in 2009. But I suspect Bar Boheme's decidedly more convivial posture – not to mention the heavenly baguettes practically cloned from Parisian DNA – will be a welcome addition to Main Street.
