Helldorado Days exhibition reception

May 18, 2023 at 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

Helldorado originally began in 1934 as a rowdy affair to bring in some money and allow the Hoover Dam workers to blow off some steam. By the following year Nevada was a booming town with Fremont Street filled with saloons, gambling halls, hotels, shops and restaurants.

To commemorate Helldorado days, the city of Las Vegas invited local photographers to reflect on images of the past and reinterpret them through their own lenses of today. Local Las Vegas artists have shown the growth and change that Las Vegas has seen the last 89 years while still keeping the traditions alive.

Local Las Vegas artists invited to reinterpret photographs from the early years of the city include Ed W. Martinez, Rita Maroun, Ginger Bruner, Heather Protz, Theresa Lucero, Daryl DePry, JW Caldwell, Lolita Develay, Jerry Misko, Sandi Love and Jo Russ. (Pictured: work by Ed W. Martinez) On exhibit through July 6.
