Las Vegas Stories is a lecture series that examines the history, people, places, and things that make Vegas home. The Tropicana, once known as the “Tiffany of the Strip,” will close its doors on April 2 to make way for a Major League Baseball stadium. David Schwartz, writer, gaming historian, and UNLV Ombuds, will discuss the hotel’s history from its swinging midcentury glory as one of the most lavish hotels on the Strip to its mob connections to the A-list entertainment, including the Folies Bergere for 50 years.
