This is a special edition of swing dance lessons at The Mint Tavern that focuses on The Madison. The Madison is a group dance from the late 1950s that was popular among teen dancers nationwide. The dance was originally a product of the unheralded African-American dance scenes of Ohio & Maryland and became a staple of dances & jukeboxes throughout the US.
The Madison was featured in John Water’s film Hairspray and performed in the stage musical based on the movie. Enjoy learning steps like the “Big Strong Turn,” the “Cleveland Box,” “Birdland,” or a “Big, Strong Jackie Gleason.”
