The Yellowjackets formed in the late 1970s as the backup band for guitarist Robben Ford and recorded their first album in 1980. Ford decided to go in a different direction. And the modern day Yellowjackets were formed โ a trio with Russell Ferrante, Jimmy Haslip and Ricky Lawson. Yellowjackets popped out on a list of potential names the band considered. Out of all this names, this one seemed to convey a band that was lively, energetic and might pack a “sting.” Since then, and with the addition of Bob Mintzer, and now William Kennedy and Dane Alderson, the Yellowjackets have gained and maintained prominence. Throughout their storied 35+ year history, the band has recorded 22 albums, received 17 Grammy Award nominations, two Grammy wins, performed countless sold-out tours, and enjoyed worldwide success.
