Mass appeal: Elvis impersonator Pete Vallee, aka Big Elvis, is a Vegas cult favorite for a reason. Aside from buttery pipes and oozy charm, his imposing size adds a certain weight to the mythos of Elvis' late-career excesses. At Always on Our Mind Aug. 16 at The Composers Room, Vallee marks the anniversary of the King of Rock 'n' Roll's death.

I SUGGEST STOCKING up on energy drinks and protein bars this week. This List will keep you moving through the weekend with ballroom dance bashes, fiery flamenco shows, and goth-rock vamps sure to raise the dead. Cheers! – Andrew Kiraly 🤍

🔥 Hot ticket: The official lineup for the 2025 Las Vegas City of Lights SoulFest Sept. 20-21 recently dropped, and tickets are on sale now.

Domestic issues: Is the place you call home really home if you can be taken from it by masked cops and crudely warehoused somewhere you never lived? The scary caprices of belonging, circa 2025 — especially for the marginalized — are explored in the #resistance-flavored exhibit home is a place rooted inside my throat. Convened at the Sahara West Library by the Scrambled Eggs collective, 16 artists-activists, working in varied media (painting, fabric, assemblage, sculpture), probe the fragile link between freedom and home. Catch the reception Aug. 14. While you're there, visit the adjacent gallery offering a jazzier vision of home: Home Means Nevada, by photographer Sarah Robles, whose multiple-exposure images capture the chaos and density of this place's wild visual life, and, by extension, its social and cultural lives, too. For a whimsical mind-cleanse, take the long way home to visit the Winchester Cultural Center gallery for Full on Fantasy, in which 30-plus local artists turn their imaginations to the magical. Enjoy the escape while you can; real life awaits outside. Scott Dickensheets
