Give me a stein: Beer and brats are in the forecast when Hofbräuhaus kicks off Oktoberfest Sept. 13, a month-plus party with celebrity keg-tappings, games, live music, and, of course, Oktoberfestbier. For all the festivity, Hofbräuhaus is serious about the suds: It's crafted in accordance with the Purity Law of 1516 to taste just like the beer in Munich.

LET'S GET WEIRD – but, you know, fun weird, not creepy weird. But, actually, yeah, a little creepy weird, but creepy weird as in spooky creepy weird and not, like, stalker creepy weird. Anyway, this week is, let's see, a sullen goth teen's bedroom stuffed with odd critters, zombies, and slasher masks. But there's also beer and punk rock, so – spoiler alert – this episode has a happy ending. Cheers! – Andrew Kiraly 🤍

🤘 Neat, this kinda lost-to-history Vegas metal band is playing Sept. 13 at the Golden Nugget of all places and I wrote a lightly philosophical essay about it:

Before The Killers, there was Slaughter
There was a snarky music-scene in-joke tied to The Killers breaking out of Las Vegas. The joke was that The Killers broke the “Slaughter Curse.” The Slaughter Curse was the grim, fatalistic notion that, boo hoo, Vegas’ most significant musical export to the world is and will always be the hair metal band Slaughter.
