Cosmic truth: The Las Vegas Astronomical Society takes you just far enough from the city neon to see the real light show at the valley's edge Feb. 8 at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. Pack a red flashlight, bring cash, and leave Fido at home (telescopes and tail-waggers don't mix).

SURE, THIS WEEK is heavily eclipsed by our national annual football religious tribal scream rite Ameri-thingie, but there's plenty of non-sportsball fun on the sidelines too, from astronomical outings to sing-along choral concerts to artful yoga sessions. Whatever your team, you're sure to score a cultural three-point swish or whatever the relevant sports metaphor is. Cheers! – Andrew Kiraly 🤍

THE CH33SE 🧀

🏟️ Hut, Hut, Hype

No lie, given my lifelong chromosomal baffled indifference to traditional spectator sportsball rituals, I'll prob spend Super Bowl Big Game Day Whatever on Feb. 9 watching at home, sofa-locked and emitting tribal screams purely based on my crude backfooted read of collective social prompts, all between chawing fistfuls of aggressively branded, high-sodium snacks. However! Our fearless curator Ginger Meurer dug deep into the sofa cushions to curate these game day events geared for locals.

  • Big Dog's lets you reserve prime Super Bowl real estate with a $100 table deposit that goes straight to your game-day tab.
  • Downtown Container Park turns Super Bowl Sunday into an all-you-can-drinker with unlimited beer and margs, plus that massive LED screen that makes your plebian "home theater" look like a flip phone.
  • The DLVEC goes full football fortress with a monster 51-foot screen (plus two 22-footers for good measure), bleacher seats, and VIP "mancaves."
  • The Portal at Area 15 goes full sensory overload with 360-degree screens turning every play into an IMAX experience, plus three hours of open bar and endless stadium grub, including the ominous-sounding "Loaded Nacho Station."
  • Both locations of El Dorado Cantina go unlimited everything with bottomless tacos, wings, and margs.
  • Get a slice of the action at both locations of Good Pie, which doubles down on Super Bowl Sunday with unlimited pizza (in three styles!) – all wrapped in their 7th birthday bash.
  • Henderson Brewing Co. serves up the Super Bowl with a side of live music and raffle prizes, plus your ten bucks gets you a pint and guaranteed seat in the house.
  • McMullan's keeps it casual with walk-in Super Bowl action on every TV in the joint, no cover charge, and no team allegiances (wink wink, Eagles fans).
  • Triple George Grill upgrades the Super Bowl bash with AYCE buffet in steakhouse serenity for football with a side of fancy.
  • Atomic Liquors brings the big game energy with wall-to-wall TVs, El Cristiano tequila tastings, and enough drink specials.
  • The Nerd turns Super Bowl Sunday into a two-hour open bar sprint with wall-to-wall screens and zero judgment on whether you're here for the game or the commercials.
  • Hofbräuhaus transforms into a Super Bowl biergarten with all-you-can-everything.
  • Hammered Harry's does the big game with $75 minimum spend that goes straight to your tab of game-day fuel. Multiple screens mean no bad seats in the house.
  • The Westgate goes big with the 18th annual Vegas-sized Super Bowl party featuring LED walls, open bar, endless buffet, and raffle prizes.
  • Circa's Stadium Swim turns Super Bowl Sunday into a poolside paradise with a 143-foot mega-screen, pyrotechnics, and temperature-controlled pools for when the game gets too heated.
  • Topgolf swaps chip shots for touchdown passes with 300+ screens plus a monster 48-footer in The Yard. Book a bay for five hours of elevated game-day glory.
  • Five Iron Golf scores with private watch party bays where you can practice your swing between quarters, plus bottomless chips and a pitcher to start your game day.
  • The Lexi turns game day into bottomless brunch with endless smash burgers, wings, and breakfast tacos to keep you fueled through the fourth.
  • Basilico classes up Super Bowl Sunday with craft cocktails, Italian bar bites, and fancy vodka jello shots, plus happy hour deals through halftime.
  • Ahern's Ottimo Gourmet gets in the game with a $49 all-you-can-eat buffet featuring loaded totchos (!) and Detroit pizza sticks, plus $10 pitchers to wash it down. Rock yr NFL gear for raffle entries.
  • Totally over the coded nationalist spectacle of it all? Choose team Antifa by spiking Trump's flappity spray-tanned head at Recycled Propaganda's Freedom Kick.

Past Lives: Golden Steer Steakhouse, July 24, 1994. Maggie Mancuso, location manager for the 1995 film Casino, took these composite photos of the interior of the Golden Steer Steakhouse. Golden Steer was scouted as a possible location for Nicky Santoro's bar in the film. Mancuso donated her photos to UNLV in 2005. (Past Lives is a partnership with Vintage Las Vegas.)
