Do you feel snappy, punk? Three veteran photographers who've chronicled punk rock's many styles, moods, and eras show their work and share advice at "The Scene/Seen" Aug. 11 at The Punk Rock Museum. Photo: Oginee Viamontes

⚡ Friday

  • The atmosphere should be, uh, electric at Shock Collar Comedy at Notoriety where, in grimdank dystopilicious fashion, you can zap the comics if they're not funny enough.
  • As long as we're mining a dark vibe: You can play a locally produced nuclear strategy wargame at Atomic Museum on this thematically rich game night. Even better, the game's creators will lead the matches.
  • Franky and The All Nighters recently extended their residency at the Red Rock Resort through October, and hella deservedly so. Franky Perez = Vegas-bred talent who brings a sweaty, raging urgency to his interpretations of rock and soul classics. He's kinda like the Venom to Frankie Moreno's Spider-Man.
🎟️
Last call for Emma, Antigone, and School of Rock, which all wrap this weekend.
Now in its sixth year, Core Contemporary's "Use Other Door" features some of Vegas' best artists exploring themes of finding passage amid thwarted pathways. Meet the artists at Friday's closing reception.

👽 Saturday

  • Promising "the weirdest and funniest acts in Vegas," the Murray's Misfits show gets bonus cred for being produced at, oo la la, Centerfolds Showroom.
  • Get yr riverdance on as Breton Thunder brings some Celtic cloggystomp (not an actual thing) to Whitney Library for a free show.
  • Kick out the protein-rich jams: SoulBelly's monthly Blues Society Jam is turning into something of a meaty institution.
  • Talk about getting real: Pixel Con started as a video game + education convention that took place within Minecraft; now it's going full IRL meatworld at MEET with two days of vendors, workshops, games, and tourneys.

Why I am obsessed with Vegas wrestling
The appeal of wrestling is also admittedly nostalgic, and calls back to my Vegas youth when my dad would take us to the Showboat Sports Pavilion.

⚠️ More weekend picks here, including mob music, meteor parties, and live film scores:

This Vegas music scene is literally underground
The best things to do in Las Vegas the week of Aug. 5.

📷 Sunday

  • You can watch these guys watch Saw 1-7 and make fun of it as the Pretty Much It movie-riff podcast produces a live show at The Space.
  • My favorite #eastside bar Starboard Tack is hosting a sweet lowrider show in the parking lot starting at 5p. Recently had their kimchi reuben, hella recommend.
  • The lush, intricate, richly imaginative music of Moonfruits is like an aural novel – in fact, their debut album was a grand concept piece about a fictional small town. The multi-instrumentalist duo performs Sunday afternoon at Clark County Library.
  • Start the piiiit – just don't mosh on anyone's Canon DSLR. A trio of veteran photographers celebrated for chronicling the history of punk discuss their work – and dispense photo advice – at "The Scene/Seen" at The Punk Rock Museum.
  • Second Sunday is like Container Park's mini-First Friday, except it's on Sunday.

Have a rad weekend. Thanks for subscribing to The List! – Andrew Kiraly
