Opera Las Vegas celebrates the African-American operatic legacy and honors the triumphs of beloved singers and composers, framed in a narration that recalls the often-challenging route to inclusion. Local singers (like soprano Sheronda McKee-Dollar and tenor Christian Shelton) will star, performing musical selections paying homage to mega-stars (Leontyne Price, William Warfield, Shirley Verrett); famous composers (Scott Joplin); and operas based on African-American life (“Porgy and Bess,” “Treemonisha”).
