FROM GLITTER-BOMBED night markets to sashaying hash browns to a "sploinky" dance party, here's what made The List this weekend. Cheers! – Andrew Kiraly 🤍
🏁 Friday June 6
- Working Friday? Here's a nice nooner sneak-off: Lunch at Little Avalon (try the Spanish Bowl), stock up on cheap tomes at the half-off book sale at Sahara West Library, and swing by the library's gallery to peep Alexa Gilweit's moodily distorted interrogations of the American farmer. 11a, Sahara West Library
- Vegas City Opera is switching up the format with this PRIDE Icons Show. Think of it as an enlightening musical talk-show, where performers discuss their personal connections to the songs before they belt 'em out. (Also Saturday and Sunday) 7p, Windmill Library
- Ska is the Sara Lee pound cake of music – nobody doesn't like it. The Eazy is pulling a pick-it-up-pick-it-up First Friday residency at Jammyland with a split set of classic ska and punky reggae (which is what I always thought ska was?). 9p, Jammyland
- If you've never been to a rave but have low-key harbored a sort of abiding scientific curiosity about it how it operates physiologically, now might be the time to tug on your lab coat: Sploinky Rave is a distilled proto-rave that aims to trip the entirety of your sensorial fuse box with the full, wonderfully punitive complement of lights and beats. 9p, Area 15

🪱 Saturday June 7
- Based on mY oWn ReSeArcH on the increasingly enshittifiedly unreliable internet, I've been flinging my used coffee grounds onto my modest backyard lazy junk garden in the modest hope it'll mutagenically burgeon into paradisiacal splendor. Base idea: Dirt is dead; soil is alive. There'll be lots more earthy brain-gems like that dropped at Growing Soil with Dennis Wichter of Las Vegas Worm Farm (also the name of my next experimental jazzcore band). 11a, Mojave Bloom Nursery
- Resistance is futile: The I Love Locals Neon Night Market is an irresistible demographic vortex containing dogs, foam, music, face paint, miniature race cars, and an ominous "lil raver dance party." 5p, Mini Grand Prix Las Vegas
- The usually serene 'n' subdued crafty vibe of Market in the Alley is getting glitterballed as Spiegelworld's DiscoShow hustles in for a pop-up appearance, livening up the vendorfest with a DJ set, dance party, and
fat rails of Peruvian cokethemed giveaways. 6p, UnCommons - The premise of the Subcultural Appropriation art show actually sounds provocative: That punk culture and the tiki scene share a common spirit of resistance. Sling me another mai tai so I can fuck the system some more! 7p, The Punk Rock Museum
- The madcap costumery of this installment of The Rocky Horror Picture Show is extra-stacked tonight with two bonus themes on top of the default saucily-sashaying-drag-goth-doctor mojo: disco and Pride. 9p, Tropicana Cinemas

- Whether you're a veteran at vinyasa or a silver citizen in need of a good stretch [tentatively raises hand], the artsy environs of Sweet Flow Yoga and June Yoga for Seniors sprinkles in some bonus beauty. 11a, Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum
- Ooh, Summerlin's getting a bit saucy this weekend, I see: Frank Marino's Diva-Licious Drag Brunch kicks up its heels in the master-planned suburban enclave. 11a, Frankie's Uptown
- Calling Project O "A Classy Rooftop Experience" seems to imply that hanging out on a rooftop is unclassy by default, an implication to which I take deep umbrage. I'm only ever classy when drinking on a rooftop! 4p, Swan Dive
